about

I'm a folk music nerd, and have a particular fondness for shape note/Sacred Harp pieces. I added my own lyrics for verse one and followed up with the original text.
We like to take religious pieces and bring them down to earth in a way. I wanted to leave the country so badly when I was kid that I didn't really connect to my roots until much later. This piece touches on that experience.

lyrics

I have brushed aside this humble dust
As along the path I trod
Until now I could not bear the weight of my father's native sod
I feel like, I feel like I'm on my journey home

I have brushed aside this humble dust
As along the path I trod
Until now I could not bear the weight of my father's native sod
I feel like, I feel like I'm on my journey home

When I can hold my title clear to mansions in the sky
I'll bid farewell to every fear and wipe my weepin' eye
I feel like, I feel like I'm on my journey home
I feel like, I feel like I'm on my journey home

Let cares like a wild deluge come
Let storms like sorrows fall
Til I can safely reach my home
My God My Heaven My All

There I can lay my weary soul
In seas of heavenly rest
And not a wave of thunder roll
Across my peaceful breast
I feel like I feel like I'm on my journey home
I feel like I feel like I'm on my journey home
